HONOLULU — A soldier based in Hawaii will soon find himself in a military courtroom, facing serious allegations related to the suspected murder of his pregnant wife.
The Army announced the upcoming proceedings on Wednesday, but troublingly, the remains of Mischa Johnson, the wife in question, have not been discovered.
Case Background
Private First Class Dewayne Arthur Johnson II stands accused in connection with the mysterious disappearance of Mischa, who was last seen on July 31 of the previous year at their home located on Schofield Barracks, an Army base in Oahu.
At the time, she was six months pregnant.
Since then, the Army has classified her as presumed deceased.
Charges Against Johnson
The charges against Johnson are grave; they include the murder of his spouse, the intentional killing of their unborn child, as well as allegations of obstruction of justice.
In addition, he faces accusations of providing false statements and for producing, possessing, and distributing materials that depict child sexual abuse.
Legal Proceedings
In August, authorities apprehended Johnson.
However, there are uncertainities surrounding his legal counsel, raising questions about whether he has secured representation from a civilian attorney.
Attempts to reach him via the contact number listed yielded no response on Wednesday.
Originally from Frederick, Maryland, Johnson serves as a cavalry scout.
He enlisted in the Army in November 2022, completed training at Fort Moore, Georgia, and was subsequently assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in 2023.
The upcoming legal proceedings will take place under the watch of a military judge, who will schedule the arraignment, pretrial hearings, and the trial.
Additional documentation detailing the charges is anticipated to be released after Johnson is formally arraigned, as noted by a spokesperson from the Army Office of Special Trial Counsel.
