Actor Anthony Mackie, famously known for his portrayal of Sam Wilson, has stepped into the iconic role of Captain America within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Recently, he took to the skies for an exhilarating freefall jump with the skilled members of the 58th Rescue Squadron.
A Milestone Jump
In the MCU, Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, embodies the spirit of a pararescue jumper—a highly demanding position within the Air Force.
As he gears up for the much-anticipated film “Captain America: Brave New World,” Mackie chose to connect with his character’s military background through a thrilling jump at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.
In celebration of this endeavor, both the Air Force and Marvel Studios shared captivating footage of Mackie’s aerial experience on social media.
This film signifies Mackie’s first time portraying Captain America on the big screen, set to debut in theaters on February 14.
Teamwork in Action
During this daring jump, Mackie partnered with Senior Master Sergeant Lucas Ferrari, an experienced PJ renowned for his tandem jumping expertise.
Simultaneously, a team of PJs from the 58th Squadron performed a coordinated formation jump from an HC-130J aircraft—the backbone of rescue operations and the essential transport for pararescue jumpers.
The HC-130J boasts cutting-edge sensors and is specially designed not only for re-fueling rescue helicopters such as the HH-60 but also for conducting search and rescue missions.
Each PJ undergoes rigorous freefall jump training as part of their initial preparation, with tandem jumping being one of the most prestigious skills to master.
These tandem jumpers are trained to handle both the weight of a partner and the additional gear packed in special parachutes, often incorporating a drogue parachute for better stability during freefall.
A Successful Landing
Throughout the jump, Mackie maintained a composed demeanor, sharing smiles with fellow jumpers as they descended.
His landing at Perkins Field, situated just north of the airbase, was both smooth and triumphant.
“Captain America: Brave New World” is poised to hit theaters on February 14, adding another chapter to the remarkable legacy of this beloved superhero.
