Navy Dismisses Commanding Officer Amid Leadership Shake-Up in Reserve Centers

The Navy dismissed Lt. Cmdr. Adam Sandifer as commanding officer of the Shreveport Reserve Center, citing a loss of confidence, marking a leadership shakeup.

On Friday, the Navy made the decision to relieve Lt.

Cmdr.

Adam Sandifer from his role as commanding officer of the Navy Reserve Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.

This dismissal represents the second such action taken by the Navy within just a month.

Reason for Dismissal

The removal was announced by Rear Adm.

Michael Steffen, who leads the Navy Reserve Forces Command.

He cited a “loss of confidence in his ability to command” as the reason for Sandifer’s dismissal.

The Navy’s official statement reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards among its leaders and highlighted the importance of accountability when those standards are not met.

Promotion and Subsequent Removal

In an interesting twist, while official Navy communications addressed Sandifer by his rank of lieutenant commander, a Facebook post from the NRC Shreveport on August 19 had announced his promotion to commander.

The Navy, however, did not provide further details about the specific circumstances leading to his removal, as the phrase “loss of confidence” is commonly used in such situations without additional clarification.

Command Transition

Sandifer’s exit follows closely on the heels of another leadership change.

Earlier in December, Lt.

Cmdr.

Christopher Bourque was similarly relieved from his position as the commanding officer of the Navy Reserve Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

After helming the NRC Shreveport since March 2024, Sandifer has now been reassigned on a temporary basis to the Navy Personnel Command.

In the meantime, Lt.

Cmdr.

John Perez will take over the leadership at NRC Shreveport.
